Something we don’t list as an ingredient on our menu, but which is essential to one’s dining pleasure at The Old Mill Inn, is our location.

Perched over an estuary in an untouched corner of Long Island, our restaurant offers a vista that is in a constant, sensuous flux. Tides, seasons and weather have a magical ability to pique our appreciation of food and drink.

Loosely translated terroir — the French term for “the feel of the land” — might be difficult to parse apart while settling down to a plate of local lobsters and a glass of our neighbor’s Pinot Blanc, but its no less a revelation, unmistakable as the clap of a bell. We are hungry, as the food writer M.F.K. Fisher said, for more than just food. We are hungry for love, and friends and home . . . and a sensory knowledge of where we are, a feel of the land. So, as Fisher goes on to say, we desire not just to be fed, but also to be nourished.

Please enjoy these images, which we hope will give you a taste of our habitat, a very delicious place.
